256 Pages of Proof that Darryl Strawberry Partied Harder Than You
Left handed slugging, 8-time All Star team making, Met and Yankee hit champion Darryl Strawberry may be known outside of New York more for his long list of personal problems than his illustrious baseball career, but with that notoriety his new book “Straw: Finding My Way” (due April 28th,2009) may become a success in the way the Torre/Verducci book has been, and the Canseco books were, but with more empty condom wrappers and beer bottles.
Picking up where “The Bad Guys Won! A Season of Brawling, Boozing, Bimbo-chasing, and Championship Baseball with Straw, Doc, Mookie, Nails, The Kid, and the Rest of the 1986 Mets, the Rowdiest Team Ever to Put on a New York Uniform–and Maybe the Best” left off, Strawberry’s upcoming memoir (co-authored with John Strausbaugh) promises to pack in more stories of ho-hopping, beer chugging and hell-raising than the “Licensed to Ill” era Beastie Boys could dream up.
The NY Daily News offered some advance verbiage from the book, and at this time it’s unknown if it will contain any messages of regret, caution or whatever. . . his story most likely parallels the lifestyle lived by many incredibly talented/troubled athletes but Straw’s got the chuztpah to talk about it and could end up having the perfect feel-crazy companion to the start of a highly anticipated 2009 Baseball season.
