A new portable device for making beats has burst onto the scene and threatens to be an (Akai) MPC “killa” in it’s promotional copy. The new “Beat Thang” battery powered sampler drum machine by the venture BeatKangz has hit the net in the form of a humble website and a few low budget Youtube videos, showing a machine that looks like the bastard child of an Ensoniq ASR-X and a Roland SP with Roger Linn as it’s godfather. The machine purports to sport an internal rechargable battery, dual SD card slots, waveform editing, backlit buttons, and replaceable ‘grillz’ for the front part of the box.

No one has actually tapped on a Beat Thang yet in real life, but the company looks ready to roll to Winter NAMM with a chip on it’s shoulder and an ad campaign filled with mo phat slang and potshots aimed at it’s competition.
